Sinigang na Baka

Sinigang na Baka is made with beef, taro, tomatoes and tropical vegetables cooked in sour tamarind broth served with rice and hot fish sauce. A classic dish, served during the cold, rainy months.


Sinigang na Baka is made with beef, taro, tomatoes and tropical vegetables cooked in sour tamarind broth served with rice and hot fish sauce. The dish finds most of its well known sour broth from tamarind but additional citrusy fruits can add to or accompany the sour broth for added taste. A classic dish, served during the cold, rainy months.

Ingredients

  • 1 qt water

  • 1 chopped large white onion

  • 3 cloves of garlic, chopped

  • 1 lbs of beef stew meat cubed and/OR

  • Pork loin cubed And/OR

  • Shrimp

  • 2 diced large tomatoes

  • ½ lb green beans trimmed

  • ½ medium bok choy cut into strips

  • 1 head of broccoli, cut into florets

  • Okra

  • Datu Puti Patis (Fish Sauce) *to add savory

  • 1 package of Mama Sita Sinigang sa Sampalok (Taramind soup base)

Step 1: Combine


Combine water, onions, garlic, green beans and tomato. Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.


Step 2: Add ingredients


Add tamarind soup base, meat (beef or pork) and green beans. Cook for one hour.


Step 3: Add and simmer


Add shrimp, broccoli and bok choy. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.


Serve immediately with white rice and Datu Puti Patis on the side!
